The Sea, The Sea

Acrylic on canvas, 2022

50 x 40cm

Original painting framed

£1,000

-

The east coast of Kent where I live has such an array of different light conditions, and this particular July morning the sea was illuminous, with the sky overcast and dark by comparison. This painting attempts to capture and respond to that, in an abstract colour field style, trying to avoid any traditional notion of a seascape painting.

The title represents the enormity of the sea and how it effects anyone living close to it, but also of course a nod to the story by Iris Murdoch. Living in a small town by the sea, you can easily draw comparisons with her characters and certain people who live here. Leave your egos and vanity in London, the sea is bigger than us all.

Also available as a fine-art Giclee print from £50.
