Part of a series of paintings inspired by the abstracted surface pattern found on pebbles.

 

This particular pebble had a busy and dynamic movement to the pattern, formed from years of surface erosion as the stone has moved on its journey.

 

Painted at a time of tragically high numbers of refugee and migrant crossings across the Channel, the energy and sense of movement in the pattern can be beautiful and serene, but the process of creating that pattern is anything but.
